Get ready to stand up and stretch your body, because today is International Yoga Day. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice and above all, it is a beautiful gift of India’s ancient tradition. It creates the unity between your body and mind and the harmony between man itself and nature. The idea of an International Day of Yoga was created by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on September 27, 2014. Modi proposed to celebrated it every June 21st, since it was the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Thus, it adds a special significance in many parts of the world. The first International Day of Yoga was observed all over the world on June 21, 2015. About 35,985 people, including Narendra Modi and a large number of dignitaries from 84 nations, joined together to performed 21 yoga postures for 35 minutes in New Delhi.

Nowadays, yoga is practiced in different ways around the world and continues to grow in popularity. The message behind this celebration is to show yoga’s benefits on health. This year’s theme is “Yoga for Health.” The theme highlights the fact that yoga can contribute in a comprehensive way when trying to achieve an equilibrium between your body and mind. They believe that this approach could have a contribution to humankind's quest to achieve a better lifestyle where humans have harmony with nature.
